Premature : It's time for Future Music Thursday #2. Moving away from letters which I'm not overly fond of, and getting into the meatier ones. I really had issues with numbers, stupid numbers. I don't like any bands that start with a number! Ian Hardacre is useless (co-opinion).
e - This letter, basically, sucks.
- E.S. Posthumus : E.S. Posthumus? Yah, they don't sing. They make music. It's like listening to an FF soundtrack. I enjoy FF soundtracks, don't get me wrong, but that's not reall the point. These guys are here as filler. But good filler. Get some if you'd ever listen to an FF soundtrack.
Key tracks : Nara, Lepcis Magna, Tikal.
- Evanescence : You could argue they should have won, since they have a different sound from most, and they're popular nonetheless. I did like them at first, but my interest faded very quickly. They don't really have much staying power. So they don't win. That rapping guy bugs teh hell out of me.
Key tracks : Bring me to Life, Going Under.
- Eve 6 : They're not new at all, but they win. Leave me alone, I don't like this letter. But I do like Eve 6. Lots of tracks make their key tracks list. Their name comes from an X-Files episode where a character named Eve is cloned.
Key tracks : 1000 Faces, Think Twice, Inside Out, Leech, On the Roof Again, Here's to the Night, Jet Pack, Promise, Showerhead, Sunset Strip Bitch.
F - F is a good letter. I enjoy F. It's not a brilliant letter, but it's a solid one.
- : Five Iron Frenzy : Really good ska. Kind of dead. Still good. Cheery, uplifting, interesting sound. I like them. You will too. Unless you're stupid.
Key tracks : Combat Chuck, Other stuff.
- Finger Eleven : Their old stuff was hard. Their new stuff is softer. Good beats, singer has a cool voice, and he's bald. Always a plus. Very clear vocals. Their guitarist marches around in a highly amusing manner. I like this band. They're not really here because of being influential, they're here just for face value.
Key tracks : Good times, Bones and Joints, Sick of It All, Suffocate.
- Fatboy Slim : Rockafella Skank! Weapon of Choice video! A band of single moments. Good ones though, which is a start.
Key tracks : Rockafella Skank, Weapon of Choice video.
- Flaming Lips : Slightly dischordant, nice sound, none of the parts quite match up. Hard to say whether I really like them or not. Except "I got a girl". I like that song.
Key tracks : I Got a Girl.
- Front 242 : Heavy grinding industrial beats. Big sounds, in some cases hollow, in some just pounding. This music is raw and powerful. More on the electronic side of industrial than, oh, Rammstein perhaps. I haven't got enough by these guys.
Key tracks : Headhunter, Lovely Day, Body to Body, Modern Angel.
- Fucking Champs : Ian suggested them, I know nothing about them. Funny key track names.
Key tracks : Thor is like Immortal, What's a little reign, Guns in our schools.
- Formula : This is a local band, good luck finding tracks. Go to their site, wherever it may be. I'm going to go to a show in the future, you can come too. Maybe. Unless I don't like you.
Key Tracks : Race of the Rozier.
- Falco : Alright! Old German music! This guy is cool. Oft sampled, and strange. His songs are good in both English and German. Like Nena, but nothing like Nena. I'm sure you all know who he is. But he goes here anyway.
Key tracks : Der Kommisar, Rock me Amadeus, Putting on the Ritz, Egoist.
- Foo Fighters : Not so new, not so influential, but who doesn't like them? The winners tend to be the only ones exempt from the selection process I use. Clean sound, catchy songs, these guys were geared for success from the start. Funny side note, I downloaded a swathe of their music, and someone thought the Foo Fighters did "Kung Fu Fighting". The original version.
Key Tracks : Monkey Wrench, My Hero, Generator, Breakout, Darling Nikki, All My Life, This is a call, Low.
G - Kind of a punky letter.
- Godsmack : It's time for a bit of music history. Centered on me of course, because I'm awesome. The first music I listened to, not just heard, but listened to, and got on my own, etc. Was Godsmack. I saw it on a homemade music video, and I liked the song, so I got it, and other tracks by them. You can thank Godsmack for these posts. I like them. Not overly complex, but good. The track was Whatever that got me into the whole music thing.
Key tracks : Whatever, Keep Away, Voodoo, Serenity, Awake, Immune, Bad Magik, Greed, Vampires.
- Gob : Hey punk fans! Get your heads out of your Blink. There's such a thing as GOOD pop-punk! What's that? You think Blink is good pop-punk? Just listen to some Gob, and you'll be enlightened otherwise. Vancouver has the best music scene. We just rock. The musicians CAN play their instruments, they CAN sing, they're NOT annoying, they're NOT retarded, and they aren't at risk of turning emo at a moments notice. Also, their wit has way WAY more bite. Capitals were used to make the punks feel more at home, and pay more attention, they're not so bright.
Key tracks : I Hear You Calling, Give Up the Grudge, Oh! Ellin, Mr. Sandman, Paint it Black, For the Moment.
- Green Day : Another one? Good band from the Bay. You know em. When I was wee, comparatively, I thought they were "Green Peace" because I read the cover wrong. Made me go "Why would Green Peace make music?"
Key tracks : Brain Stew, Basket Case, She, Good Riddance.
- Great Big Sea : I forget, they covered REMs End of the world. Yah. Why are they even here Magz?
Key tracks : Iunno, that REM one.
- Goo Goo Dolls : What a silly name! I don't want to review more music, and only these guys left, I'll just edit them a review. Molly says they're good live, and she's really hot, so I'm going to go ahead and say they're good live in an attempt to get into her pants. You know what you think of them by now anyway, they're trite by now.
Key tracks :
- Gilbert and Sullivan : YES YES YES! BEST MUSIC EVER!
Key tracks : I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General, A British Tar is a Soaring Soul, When the Foeman Bares his Steel.
- Garbage : This. Band. Is. Good. I. Am. Canadian. I'm very fond of Garbage. Garbage is my favourite kind of music. I listen to Garbage. If it weren't for Garbage, how would adults possibly think they're being clever with us youths music (we're not kids, because if we were kids it'd mean they're old). Great voice, great sound, recognizeable, they've got variety, more bands need that. Their singer is suprisingly un-hot. Also, their music is the slightest bit twisted, just a little bit of kink. Not enough to be kinky, but still kinked.
Key tracks : Only Happy When it Rains, When I Grow Up, Push It, Queer, Androgyny, Cherry Lips, Beautiful.
H - Hubris starts with H!
- Hed PE : Revelations is the loudest song EVER. I don't mean maxes out the equalizer, I mean you can turn it up till your heart just starts skipping beats to the bass and your ears won't hurt, and it just keeps sounding better. It's loud, not noisy. Yes it skips beats, yes I do this a lot, I know it's probably bad for me, but it feels too cool to not do. Like some sort of not unhealthy (maybe) drug. Hed PE stands for Hed Planet Earth. My problem with that is, what the hell is Hed? Oh, what do they sound like? Very roary, and angry. Raprock where the rap is just that he rhymes rather well and the rock is hard. This is what raprock should be. Not whiney at all. Get whatever you want, it all basically sounds the same, except Revelations is awesome.
Key tracks : Revelations, Killing Time, Feel Good, Circus, Darky, I got you.
- Hellsing : It gets on here because his gun is so big. He being Alucard. Also, the funky jazzed up music of Japan is just good. Get the key tracks, more than worth your while. It's a nice night.
Key tracks : Opening Theme, Alucards Theme.
- Hot Hot Heat : They're local too, my list is very German, and Local. They're good. Not my favourite, on here for their loccie (low-key, like local) points. A lot of people like them, and they've got a cool sound. It's just not my sound, per se.
Key tracks : Bandages, No Not Now.
- Harold Faltermeyer : Remember all that synth music on tv from the 80s? It's him, right up to Beverly Hills cop, and Top gun. Axel Foley is a great great track. German. Again.
Key tracks : Axel Foley, Top Gun Theme.
- Him : Why haven't more people heard of Him (HIM technically.. I think)? More German stuff. Hard to explain Him... How about, really really good? He's a great singer, with an interesting voice, to good rock music. I'm not sure if he counts as Nu-Metal or not. I'm not even entirely sure what Nu-Metal is. As far as I can tell Nu-Metal is my thing though. Yah, Him, good, get. It's hard to pick key tracks for a band as brilliant and great sounding as these guys. ANOTHER German band.
Key tracks : The Sacrament, Wicked Game, Razorblade Kiss, Beautiful, Poison Girl, Sigillum Diaboli
3 lines from one song.
D is for Deutschland, and Deutschland victory!
G is for German. We do not watch TV!
K is for Kompressor, and Kompressor is for ME!
First to identify that song gets a prize.
Some punks were harmed in the making of this review. They were offended, emotionally abused, beaten, and some were ground up. I use punk goo to oil the axle of my computer.
Punks are a clean burning and efficient fuel source. And a renewable resource!
About god damn time with this thing. Yich.
